University of Sufism & Modern Sciences

Description

The University of Sufism and Modern Sciences (USMS) is located in Bhitshah Town, Matiari District, a place deeply rooted in spiritual heritage and home to the shrine of the revered Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. The university was established as a realization of the vision of former President Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, who aimed to provide quality higher education to the people of rural Sindh, directly at their doorstep. Initially founded as a campus of the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, USMS received its charter on November 21, 2011, through official notification PAS/Legis-B-21/2011. It later attained independent university status, and Prof. Dr. Parveen Munshi was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor on April 11, 2016.

USMS is dedicated to blending the rich values of Sufism with the rigor of modern sciences, fostering a holistic academic environment. The university aims to instill values such as tolerance, harmony, love, and brotherhood—core principles of Sufi teachings—while also advancing critical thinking, innovation, and creativity in scientific and professional disciplines. Its educational approach is student-centered, inclusive, and rooted in cultural and spiritual relevance.

The university aspires to address contemporary societal challenges by accelerating growth in areas that merge tradition with modernity. USMS supports its faculty and students in engaging deeply with education, research, and the community. Its mission is to provide transformative learning experiences, enrich lives through Sufi philosophy and scientific inquiry, and serve both local and national communities with integrity and purpose.

Though still developing, the University of Sufism and Modern Sciences is steadily carving a unique space in Pakistan’s higher education landscape. By harmonizing cultural values with modern academic standards, it continues to grow as a beacon of enlightenment, inclusivity, and intellectual growth in the region.
