The University of Larkano is a public-sector research university located in Larkana, Sindh, Pakistan. It was officially established on August 20, 2023, following the passage of the University of Larkano Bill by the Sindh Provincial Assembly on July 24, 2023. The act received the Governor’s assent later that month, formally launching the institution as a chartered university under the Government of Sindh. Its Chancellor is the Governor of Sindh, and its first Vice Chancellor is Professor Dr. Muhammad Usman Kerio.
The university was formed by merging the Larkana campus of Sindh University, the Larkana campus of Quaid‑e‑Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology (QUEST), and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Agricultural College Dokri. These constituent institutions now serve as the Faculties of Social Sciences & Humanities, Engineering, and Agriculture, respectively.
In its inaugural batch for 2024–25, the University of Larkano introduced a diverse range of undergraduate programs across its faculties. The Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities offers degrees such as BBA, BS in Business Administration, English Language & Literature, and Computer Science. The Faculty of Engineering includes BS/B.E. degrees in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics Engineering. The Faculty of Agriculture provides BSc (Hons.) degrees in Agronomy, Soil Science, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Entomology, and Plant Protection.
The University of Larkano’s campus spans approximately 1,279 acres, blending educational infrastructure with open landscape. The university is recognized and accredited by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), and its engineering programs meet criteria from the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC); its law program falls under regulatory oversight of the Pakistan Bar Council.
Committed to academic excellence and global engagement, the university has entered into a landmark collaboration with University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, to foster faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and innovation across multiple fields, including engineering, social sciences, and computer science.
The university admits a substantial student body—approximately 41,000 full‑time students—taught by a mix of local and internationally connected faculty members across its faculties. As a general comprehensive university, it covers disciplines from engineering and agriculture to social sciences and humanities, reflecting modern trends in multidisciplinary higher education.
Supporting students through modern infrastructure, the university provides on-campus hostels, transport services, laboratories, digital libraries, Wi‑Fi classrooms, and administrative support. Its Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) manages professional development and research activities. Scholarship programs and student feedback systems aim to foster an inclusive, dynamic learning environment.
In summary, the University of Larkano represents a significant step in expanding access to quality higher education in Upper Sindh. Building on established institutions, it offers a robust academic structure, a wide array of programs, and a vision aligned with modern educational and research excellence.
