Description

The University of Mirpurkhas is a public-sector research university located in Mirpurkhas, Sindh. It was officially established on August 20, 2023, following the passage of the University of Mirpurkhas Bill by the Sindh Provincial Assembly on July 24, 2023, and its subsequent assent by the Governor of Sindh later that month. The Governor serves as the Chancellor, and Professor Dr. Rafiq Ahmed Memon is the founding Vice Chancellor.

Covering approximately 1,279 acres, the University of Mirpurkhas began operations by consolidating several existing educational entities. These merged institutions now constitute the university’s core faculties: Commerce and Business Administration, Science, and Arts. Each faculty oversees specific undergraduate disciplines designed to meet the region’s academic demands.

In its inaugural academic session of 2024–25, the university rolled out a multi-disciplinary undergraduate curriculum. Programs within the Faculty of Commerce include BS in Business Administration and BS in Commerce. The Faculty of Science offers BS in Computer Science, BS in Information Technology, and BS in Data Science. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Arts provides degrees such as BS in English Language and Literature, BS in Applied Linguistics, and BS in Banking and Finance.

Enrolling around 40,000 full-time students, the University of Mirpurkhas aims to serve a broad demographic with modern educational offerings. It operates under the accreditation of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Its science and technology programs adhere to standards set by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), and legal studies align with the Pakistan Bar Council where applicable.

To support student success and research innovation, the university is equipped with infrastructure such as classrooms with Wi-Fi, digital libraries, laboratories, hostels, and transport services. Its Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) is tasked with promoting research activities, partnerships, and professional development. Additionally, scholarship programs and feedback mechanisms foster an inclusive learning environment.
