Shaikh Ayaz University (SAU), located in Shikarpur, Sindh, was officially established in December 2018. It originated from the Shikarpur Campus of Shah Abdul Latif University and was upgraded to an independent public university through a government notification issued on December 12, 2018. The university is named in honor of the renowned Sindhi poet, Shaikh Ayaz. Its establishment reflects a strategic effort to expand access to higher education in interior Sindh and to rejuvenate the historical educational presence of Shikarpur.
The university offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs across multiple departments. Its undergraduate offerings include degrees such as BBA (Business Administration), BS in Commerce, Computer Science, English Language & Literature, Information Technology, Mathematics, and B.Ed (Hons) in Teacher Education. These programs are typically four years in duration and follow a semester-based academic structure. In addition, SAU offers master’s programs in disciplines like English and Commerce, and there are plans to further expand its postgraduate academic portfolio. All academic activities and admissions are aligned with the guidelines of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.
SAU’s vision is to nurture critical thinking, creativity, cultural understanding, and civic responsibility among its students through high-quality teaching and research. Its mission emphasizes academic excellence, social responsibility, and sustainability. The university is committed to producing well-rounded professionals who are prepared to contribute meaningfully at both national and global levels. It also supports students through various scholarship programs such as the HEC Merit Scheme, the EHSAAS Need-Based Scholarship, and other financial aid initiatives.
Though still in its early years, Shaikh Ayaz University is steadily building its academic infrastructure, expanding its faculties, and strengthening its research capacity. It has already become a key institution for higher education in Shikarpur and Upper Sindh. By continuing to develop in alignment with modern educational standards, the university aspires to play a central role in shaping the academic and professional future of the region.
