Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (SBBUVAS), Sakrand, was officially founded in 2012 through the Sindh Act XV of 2012, passed by the Provincial Assembly of Sindh on September 13, 2012. It is the first public-sector university in Sindh dedicated exclusively to veterinary and animal sciences and the second of its kind in Pakistan. The university was established in recognition of the vital role that livestock, poultry, and animal health play in the economy of Sindh and the livelihoods of its rural population.

SBBUVAS offers the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.), a professional five-year degree program that prepares students for careers in animal health, veterinary clinical practice, livestock development, research, and public sector services. The curriculum integrates practical and theoretical components across veterinary medicine, surgery, pathology, theriogenology, microbiology, animal nutrition, poultry, and dairy production systems.

In addition to the D.V.M. program, the university has launched M.Phil. postgraduate programs in various specialized fields such as Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Surgery, Theriogenology, Poultry Science, Dairy Technology, and Veterinary Anatomy & Histology. These programs are aimed at developing highly skilled researchers and professionals capable of contributing to scientific advancement and innovation in animal sciences.

Through its comprehensive academic offerings and mission-driven approach, SBBUVAS continues to play a vital role in meeting the growing demand for qualified professionals in the fields of veterinary and animal sciences across Sindh and Pakistan.
